This installment of Finding Inspiration in Ordinary Places is about learning how to create a strong finished image in a location that may not look visually interesting at first glance.
The setup takes place along an ordinary sidewalk beside a building. Rather than treating the environment for what it literally was, the goal was to use the available surroundings in a way that created a completely different visual impression. The final image feels much more like it was photographed in a wooded or natural environment, even though the actual location was nothing more than a walkway.
This course walks through the decisions that made that transformation possible, including how the location was evaluated, what was included in the frame, what was intentionally excluded, how camera position affected the result, and how the available surroundings were used to create depth and separation.
The larger lesson is not about this particular sidewalk. It is about learning how to stop depending on traditionally “beautiful” locations and start recognizing what can be created from ordinary spaces.

Although a strobe is used during the tutorial, the principles taught are not dependent on flash. Natural light photographers can apply the same location, composition, and visual decision-making techniques.
