Description
This course is part of the AW Teaches Archive. It comes from an earlier phase of my work, but it was personally handpicked because it still holds strong value and includes concepts I continue to use today. While my process has been refined over time, the foundation shared here remains solid. This course is available as a standalone purchase through January 1, 2026. After that date, it will no longer be sold individually and will live exclusively inside the VP Box.
This tutorial was captured in 2019. My lighting wasn’t where it is now in 2025 or 2026, and I’m clear about that. But when I looked at this image, I didn’t see something broken. I saw structure. To me, not every image needs to be edited or fixed.
This image had a foundation I could build on. The sharpness was there, and that was the deciding factor. That alone made me pause and look closer instead of discarding it.
Inside this course, I walk through how I approached an image that many photographers would instinctively delete. You’ll see how I evaluated what was working, what mattered, and how structure and sharpness can carry an image further than perfect lighting ever could.
As a photographer, the takeaway is learning to recognize potential in images you may have been conditioned to overlook. This course helps you slow down your decision-making and understand when an image is worth working through instead of walking away from it.
