Description
AW Teaches Archive Course
This course is part of the AW Teaches Archive. It comes from an earlier phase of my work, but it was personally handpicked because it still holds strong value and includes concepts I continue to use today. While my process has been refined over time, the foundation shared here remains solid. This course is available as a standalone purchase through January 1, 2026. After that date, it will no longer be sold individually and will live exclusively inside the VP Box.
This is one of the few courses where you see me on camera, talking through what I’m looking for in real time. Adding it to the Archive wasn’t easy, but it belongs here because it captures how I think when I’m working through light on the fly.
In this course, I break down the ongoing conversation around light and airy versus dark and moody and show how I capture both within my style. All three images were captured at the same time of day, at high noon, without the subject moving. Flash is used throughout, and you’ll see each image move from RAW to final.
I walk through how I create a light and airy look, how I shift to a dark and moody look under the same conditions, and then how I move into shade for a third variation. Diagrams are used to clearly show my intentions and decision-making as the light changes.
What you’ll take away:
How to create multiple looks in the same lighting conditions, how to control light direction and contrast with flash, and how small shifts in approach can completely change the final image without changing the subject.
This course runs just over 40 minutes and was captured in 2020. It reflects a more personal teaching style and will be updated in 2026.
