Sometimes the available light simply isn't giving me what I want.

Glimmers of Contrast is about recognizing that problem and knowing how to change it.

In this course, I take you behind the scenes of a location where the existing light was working against me. The ambient light was harsh, uneven, and creating shadows that weren't giving me the look I wanted.

Instead of searching for another location or trying to fix everything later in post, I used one flash to take control of the scene.

You'll see the environment I was working with, where I placed my subject, where I positioned my light, and what I was seeing that made me decide flash was necessary in the first place.

That's an important part of this course.

Knowing how to use flash is one skill. Knowing WHEN you need it and what problem you're asking it to solve is another.

I walk through my thought process as I evaluate the existing light and then show how I use one light to change the relationship between my subject and the environment. You'll see how I control the unwanted ambient light, deal with the shadows, and deliberately create the contrast and direction I want.

The before and after shown on the course cover isn't an editing transformation. That's what changing the light did.

From there, I take you through my complete edit from RAW to final so you can see how I finish what was already created during capture.
