Exposure With Intent

$39.00

One of my Core 6 Foundation courses. Learn the WHY behind my settings and how intent drives my decisions before I ever press the shutter.

Exposure With Intent

Photographers ask me about my settings ALL the time.

Why that aperture? Why that shutter speed? Why that ISO? Why not use this instead?

And the problem is that they are trying to reverse engineer a decision by looking at the final photograph.

But they don't know what I was trying to accomplish.

They don't know what the light looked like before I introduced flash. They don't know what I wanted the background to render like. They don't know whether the subject who looks perfectly still in the final image had been laughing, moving, or spinning in the frames immediately before it.

The settings only make sense once you understand the intent behind them.

That is what Exposure With Intent is about.

This course takes you through multiple real photo sessions using both flash and natural light and shows you how I make exposure decisions before the shutter is pressed.

You'll see situations where the exact same camera settings can produce completely different-looking photographs because the environment, light, subject, and goal were different.

You'll also see how flash changes the equation.

When flash is introduced, you're no longer looking at camera settings in isolation. Flash power, ambient exposure, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, subject placement, and the environment all work together. Changing one can completely alter how the scene renders.

That's why simply copying someone's settings rarely teaches you very much.

Inside the course, you'll see:

  • Multiple real photo sessions
  • Flash and natural-light examples
  • Full behind-the-scenes video
  • Unedited RAW files
  • The camera settings for every example
  • Why those settings were chosen
  • How flash power and camera exposure work together
  • How movement, environment, and subject behavior affect exposure decisions
  • Complete editing from RAW to final with no presets

This course isn't about memorizing settings.

It's about understanding why the settings were chosen in the first place.

The goal is to move you away from asking, "What settings created this?" and toward being able to look at your own scene and decide what settings support the result you want to create.

6 Core Takeaways

Settings are a response to intent.
They are not the starting point.

The same settings can create very different results.
The scene, light, subject, and decisions surrounding them matter.

Flash changes how exposure should be evaluated.
Camera exposure and flash power work together.

Subject behavior matters.
A finished frame may look still even when the situation leading up to it was not.

Light, environment, and subject placement work as a system.
They shouldn't be evaluated independently.

You cannot fully understand a photograph from the EXIF alone.

Exposure With Intent is included in the VP Box.
