Photographers spend a lot of time chasing settings, trying to figure out what aperture, shutter speed, ISO, flash settings, or lens was used to create a specific image, with the assumption that if they know the numbers, they can recreate the result.
This course breaks that idea completely by showing images captured with the exact same settings that produce completely different results, not because something was wrong, but because the decision behind the image was different.
We will cover images captured with flash as well as those captured with only natural light, without the use of portable reflectors, all to show that the defining factor is intent.
This course walks through how intent is established before the shutter is ever pressed, and how every choice that follows, from camera settings to flash power to what you choose to include or ignore, is a response to that intent.
Most education shows results and explains settings after the fact, but this shows the decision before the result happens.
We will go through MULTIPLE real photo sessions, unedited RAW images, and behind-the-scenes video to see exactly what was happening in real time, along with the editing process used to create the final image without the use of any presets.
Even though you will be shown all the settings, this is not about simply showing what was used, but about understanding how the decision was made before those settings were ever chosen, because that is the part you cannot find by looking at a finished image.
The goal is to move you away from trying to reverse engineer settings and instead understand how to make decisions that give you control over your final result in any environment, so you can apply it to your own work.
6 Takeaways
Settings are a response to intent, not the starting point. You will learn the WHY behind the camera settings.
The same camera settings can produce completely different results depending on the scene and your decisions.
With flash pictures, you will understand how flash power and camera settings marry each other
Intent must be established before you take the photo, not during editing.
Light, environment, and subject placement all work together… not independently.
You cannot truly understand a photo by looking at settings alone.
