How I Got the Shot 6
$12.00
Learn how I use color as part of the composition itself…to guide the eye, create separation, and turn an ordinary city scene into something much more intentional. You’ll see the BTS, RAW file, lighting and composition decisions, and complete edit. Composing With Color is normally only available inside the VP Box, but during this 3-day sale, I’m making it available to purchase individually.
COMPOSING WITH COLOR
This image wasn't built around the location alone. It was built around the color inside it.
In this tutorial, I break down how I used the existing city lights, color relationships, subject placement, and composition to build the frame before I ever started editing.
You'll see the actual location, the behind-the-scenes setup, the RAW file, and the decisions that determined where I placed my subject and how I used the surrounding lights to create balance and direction inside the image.
A big part of this lesson is understanding that color can do more than make a photograph feel vibrant. It can help guide the eye, create visual weight, separate the subject, and make an ordinary city scene feel much more intentional.
You'll also see how the lighting was placed, why I chose the angle I did, and how the final edit strengthened what was already happening in-camera instead of completely rebuilding the photograph afterward.
The larger takeaway is about learning to compose with more than lines and shapes. Color itself can become part of the structure of the image.
You'll see the BTS, RAW file, lighting decisions, composition choices, and complete edit from RAW to final.
This tutorial is included in the VP Box. Standalone purchases include lifetime access.
